Olen Noles Massey

March 7, 1938 – July 30, 2023

Olen N. Massey, noted Grand Prairie resident, passed away on July 30, 2023. Although not a member of Grand Prairie Historical Organization, the passing of Olen Massey should be noted. He left a great legacy in the service of his community. With a love of music and the care and concern of people, Olen was instrumental in the formation of Southland Funeral Home and later Bean-Massey-Burge Funeral Home in Grand Prairie where he often sang. Along with Bruce Bean, Duke Burge and Ralph Giessner, he was instrumental in adding the first ambulance service to Grand Prairie. He had a significant role in founding Rainbow Records in Dallas, co-founded the Grand Prairie PeeWee Football Association and the Thursday Rotary Club. He was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason and member
of the Hella Temple Shrine.

Olen was educated in Grand Prairie schools and served as music minister at West Ridge Baptist Church where he met his wife, Janice Byrd.
