Billy James “B.J.” Claybourn

September 8, 1926-September 23, 2023

B.J. Claybourn, a Life Member of the Grand Prairie Historical Organization, was born in Dublin, Texas. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during the latter years of World War II.

After completing his military service, B.J., used the GI Bill to receive a bachelors
degree in chemical engineering from the University of Missouri in 1948, then began a 42 year career with Magnolia Oil which later merged with Mobil Oil. This career took him all over the world.

As a hobby, he visited and photographed all 254 county courthouses in Texas, and was docent at the Old Red Museum of Dallas County. B.J. was a member of the STAR Trekkers walking club of Irving.

B.J. is preceded in death by his wives, Thelma Ruth Maples, and Della Joan Smith
Longorio. He is survived by son, David; daughters, Susan and Cynthia; and several grand and great-grandchildren.
